With a background playing music and after many years of performance and independent study as a drummer, Matt opted to seek a full time musical career and embarked on a foundation degree in Music and Live Performance at the Academy of Music and Sound in Swindon (2010-2012). With drums as his specialist instrument, the course focused on technical, stylistic and live performance outcomes, and gave Matt the platform to extend this study, going on to achieve a BA Hons in Music and Performance Industries (2013).
Achieving a 2:2 in both qualifications, the BA Hons extended the specialist range to into Music Production and the emphasis on practical learning was geared up to making a living in the music industry. Matt has since focused on live work, including three years in a successful function band (‘Catch 22’ www.sixfingeredmusic.com) which involves regular performances in front of large and small venues in live shows across Southern England and Wales. Since the degree courses, he has also taken been taking further private lessons in drum theory, guitar and technical studies with Slater Music School.
Matt has chosen to develop his career into education and we are pleased he has trained with us as a specialist instrument tutor (drums). An educator by nature, he successfully completed his studies and his main strength is the formative years and technical foundation of drummers.
He teaches at Kennet Valley, Marlborough St Mary’s, St Johns Academy, and has numerous weekly private students in our afterschool sessions at St Johns.
